Position of the breech

 

When a baby’s feet are positioned to be born before their head, they are said to be in the breech position.

The majority of infants that are delivered in this position are healthy. If your baby is in crisis or is too large to enter safely via the birth canal, your doctor will advise against a vaginal delivery. If your doctor discovers that your baby is breech a few weeks before delivery, they may attempt to reposition the baby. When labor begins, if the baby is still in the breech position, the majority of doctors will prescribe a cesarean birth.

Low birth weight is typically caused by inadequate nutrition or tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs during pregnancy.

The newborn may require hospitalization for several months following delivery.

 

When should you consult your doctor?

 

You should definitely call your doctor if you are pregnant and notice any issues. If you encounter any of the following, please call your doctor straight away:

  • substantial vaginal bleeding
  • abrupt hand or face swelling
  • an ache in the lower abdomen
  • a high fever
  • episodic, severe headaches
  • vertigo
  • an unpredictable vomiting pattern
  • diminished visual acuity

If you’re concerned that your baby is no longer moving as frequently as normal throughout the third trimester, you should also phone your doctor.

 

How can you prevent complications?

 

Not all complications are avoidable. The following actions may assist ensure a healthy pregnancy and prevent you from having a high-risk pregnancy:

Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and fiber.

Take prenatal vitamins every day.

Attend all standard prenatal checkups, including those with a specialist if one is suggested.

Quit smoking if you smoke.

Avoid drinking and illicit substances.

Ask your doctor if the drugs you’re already taking are appropriate to continue taking or if you should stop taking them.

Reduce your stress levels. Listening to music and practicing yoga are two techniques to lessen your stress levels.
